Australia Mandates QR Codes on All Pharmaceutical Packaging by 2027
Canberra, December 15, 2024 - The Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) announced that starting from 2027, all pharmaceutical packaging sold in Australia must be printed with QR codes. The QR codes will contain detailed information such as drug production batch number, expiration date, production place, and supply chain traceability.
This measure is aimed at strengthening the supervision of the pharmaceutical market, preventing the circulation of counterfeit drugs, and improving the safety of drug use. Pharmaceutical enterprises have 2 years to adjust their production lines to meet the new requirements, and TGA will provide relevant technical guidelines and support.
