Rome, December 7, 2024 - Italian aluminum processing company Novelis announced the development of a new type of recyclable aluminum pharmaceutical packaging. The packaging is made of high-purity aluminum alloy, which can be recycled infinitely without loss of quality, and the recycling process consumes only 5% of the energy required for producing new aluminum.

The packaging has excellent barrier performance and can effectively protect drugs from light and oxygen. It is mainly used for the packaging of high-value biological drugs and will be supplied to the European pharmaceutical market in 2025. Novelis plans to build a special recycling system for pharmaceutical aluminum packaging in Europe.
