EU New Regulations on Pharmaceutical Packaging to Take Effect in 2026
Brussels, December 23, 2024 - The European Union announced that the new pharmaceutical packaging regulations will be officially implemented in January 2026. The new regulations require all pharmaceutical packaging sold in the EU market to meet stricter environmental protection and safety standards, including reducing plastic use by 30% and increasing recyclable materials to more than 80%.
The regulations also stipulate that pharmaceutical packaging must be marked with detailed environmental impact information, and enterprises that fail to meet the standards will face fines of up to 5% of their annual turnover. This will force pharmaceutical packaging enterprises to accelerate the research and development of green packaging materials.
