China Develops New Biodegradable Pharmaceutical Packaging Material
Beijing, December 22, 2024 - A research team from Tsinghua University announced the successful development of a new type of fully biodegradable pharmaceutical packaging material. The material is made from plant-based raw materials, can be completely degraded in natural environment within 2 years, and has excellent barrier performance comparable to traditional plastic packaging.
The material has passed the national pharmaceutical packaging material safety certification and will be put into mass production in 2025. It is expected to replace more than 50% of traditional non-degradable pharmaceutical packaging materials in the next 5 years, effectively reducing environmental pollution caused by pharmaceutical packaging waste.
